100% Design Shanghai and International Home Décor & Design 2010 closes with a 30% growth this year; Visitors Up by 23.33% to 12,000 Trade Visitors

Organized by Reed Exhibitions, the third edition of 100% Design Shanghai and International Home Décor & Design attracted 11,953 attendees, an increase of 23.33% from its second year in 2009.  The two exhibitions received overwhelming response from the 148 leading international brands from 14 countries who displayed their latest interior products and home decorations on the 9,000sqm gross space, an increase of about 30% from 2009.


The visitor breakdown included 1,801 VIPs (VIPs refer to specifically targeted individuals in the design industry), an significant increase of 95.97% from 2009; and 161 Diamond Club members which includes founders, partners,  chief designers and architects from top 200 interior design and architecture companies in China, buyers, managing directors from 5-star Hotels, property developers and high net-worth individuals. 430 members of the press also attended the three-day event at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from 4 to 6 November 2010.  

 
Creative Director Michael Young, a renowned British designer based in Hong Kong, worked with the International Copper Association (ICA) for this year’s creative installation, which is made from copper, an old but versatile material.  Rising from the momentum of collaboration with Chinese industrialists, the Zipte Link System, a version of which he has created for the entrance of 100% Design Shanghai, captures the strengthening ties between local industry and design, and exemplifies the skills of Asia industry and manufacturing.  To show off a diverse range of copper applications in a dedicated section, International Copper Association also invited designers from China and international to showcase their designs made from copper.


Winners of the second edition “DESIGNED IN CHINA: The Rado Young Design Prize” were also unveiled at the exhibition.  Partner with the renowned Swiss watchmaker Rado, two grand prizes were awarded to the designers of “Scroll Chair” and “Addiction”. The respective recipients, Xu Gongwei, Sun Jing and Guan Ning won out of 422 entries received from designers all over China.  3 winners from the Student Category also won complimentary short course in University of the Arts London.  Besides these two grand prizes, 10 other finalists also displayed their winning pieces at the exhibition.


This year’s event received special support from the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Commerce and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, through a bilateral exhibiting delegation.  At this exhibition, exhibitors from the Czech Republic presented their latest design concepts of crystal products; while exhibitors from the Japanese Pavilion featured a series of new adaptations of classic brands and redesigns of traditional products.


Two new sectors were introduced this year – the Smart Home and Green pavilions.  The Smart Home Pavilion was supported by IGRS Alliance and showcased the latest technology, innovation and automated home systems towards creating an exciting digital home. The Green Pavilion was hosted by GIGA (Green Ideas, Green Actions) to showcase China's leading green material innovators. Partnering manufacturers presented the interconnection between healthy materials and the viability and potential of our ecosystems.
Visitors were also impressed with the “Art of Lavish Living” showcase which was specially curated by Jully Ye and KOKAISTUDIOS.  The presentation by some 12 leading brands allows visitors to experience the application of high-end brands in home decoration.  The showcase also illustrated the advantages of the writing desk, a traditional and utilitarian piece of furniture for European nobility.

Exhibitors also gave their thumbs up for the response received at the exhibitions. Kunio Nasuno, president of Nasnos said,” Many people come to our booth, people with a purpose to buy our products. China is a big market; we’ve already booked the booth for next year.”

“This is the first time we participating in the exhibitors. Visitors are very keen to know our brand, designs and our products.” Said Jennifer Chen, General Manger from Dayazhai Group.

Exhibitors in 100% Futures, which looked to unearth new designers and new establishments, found their fresh design elements and innovative styles a hit among visitors. “I knew 100% Design in London for a long time. I want more people to know my furniture design and communicate with other designers”, said Jovana Bogdanovic, Chief Designer of Innovo, “I met a lot of people with interest to buy my products. I am very satisfied with the exhibition and lots of people like my products.”

The state-of-the-art creative exhibits and engaging activities at the exhibitions won high praise from the broad spectrum of attendees. “I learn the show from my colleague. I also find this year there is a pavilion showcase copper designs. It is really worth to visit. There are a lot of design elements. I’ve talked to many exhibitors.
